Reading Challenge: 2022 Updates

Hello friends!

Long time no see, I'm sorry for disappearing for over a year. Life got in the way but now I'm excited to come back and I already have a lot of ideas! To keep you up to date on how this year was for me in terms of reading, I decided to do a reading update!

This was supposed to be Mid-Year Freak Out tag, but because I'm super late and take forever, I'm going to be doing the 2022 reading update instead 😂

1. HOW MUCH HAVE YOU READ?

This time last year I’d already read 75 books so missing those days of reading hard and fast. But I am stressing less about reading and focusing on books I enjoy! Also, this reading month hasn't been the best and I have already DNF'd 3 books this month 🙊

2. BEST BOOKS YOU'VE READ SO FAR IN 2022

fantasy books

This was so hard to choose but I really freaking loved all of these books, especially Year of the Reaper & The Prison Healer. The plot was unique and the twists were just 😱

romance books

I had to make a separate section for romance books, especially contemporary romance since finally AFTER 3 YEARS I'm back to reading that genre. I have read a few this year but these ones are my absolute favorites. Fun fact: I tried reading It Happened One Summer last year and DNF'd it 😂

3. BOOKS I DID NOT FINISH IN 2022

I always seem the black sheep among my friends when it comes to hyped books. Most of the time I don't like hyped ones because of the high expectations and how everyone is telling me to read them. The latest one that I DNF'd was My Killer Vacation and I still don't know what that was honestly, it was a hot mess. I know you guys are still waiting for a review, and I will do one very soon!

4. BEST SEQUEL YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2022

As I was putting this list together, I realized that I really haven't read a lot of sequels. Either I read completed series or started new ones (mostly new releases) and the ones I did read were not that amazing and sadly have Second Book Syndrome.

But I read these 3 books and gave them 4.5/5 stars. The last one was The Gilded Cage, which I finished a few days ago and really enjoyed it. Humor + suspense + action + secrets + betrayal + romance, this book has everything and so much more. This one’s a very strong contender for becoming my favorite YA fantasy series.

5. NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET, BUT WANT TO

Did I already preorder/order all these books? Yes. Did I start any of them? Nope. I have heard great things about all these books and the ones I'm looking forward to the most are Forging Silver into Stars and The Darkening.

6. MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR

I have so many anticipated releases that I'm planning on preordering before they are released. These are some fantasy and romance books I'm super hyped to read! have already preordered some of the books on this list This year honestly has been amazing compared to last year!

7. BIGGEST SURPRISE

Probably the book that totally took me by surprise out of these 4 is Blood Scion. I remember that Fairyloot picked that book in their April Box and when I saw it, I skipped it since I was not interested in the book. However, I decided to read the ebook and give it a try and WOWOW I LOVED IT.

Also, Swear On This Life blew me away! This one has been on my shelves for 5 years and I was so close unhauling it. So glad I didn't because I finished it in 2 sittings and made me cry like a baby.

8. DISAPPOINTING BOOKS I READ IN 2022

I actually added this question, there is no question about the books you did not finish this year and if you know me, you know I love complaining about books everyone lobed but me. Most of these books I read because of the hype (looking at Emily Henry books and The Fine Print) and sadly I did not like them. I mostly gave these books between 2 to 3 stars.

9. UNDERRATED GEMS YOU’VE DISCOVERED RECENTLY

These are some of the books I saw on TikTok & Instagram randomly and I decided to read them on a whim. They definitely took me by surprise and loved them. Gave them all 5 stars!

10. Book that made you cry?

These 3 books above made me cry. They were really freaking emotional and I did shed a few tears as I read (especially Swear On This, I was ugly crying with hiccups and all).
